The Made Wirata Artisan Collection is brought to you by World Menagerie in Association with National Geographic. This beautiful piece was handcrafted by Made Wirata in Indonesia. An artisan story card will be included with your purchase. Face to face, a couple kneels in a kiss; their sinuous bodies suggest one shared heart. Made Wirata captures the force of the lovers’ passion in a suar wood image. About the Artist: Made Wirata; Balinese artisan Made Wirata comes from a family dedicated to this art for generations. ‘I first learned to carve from my father, who specialized in a particular style of carving locally known as Sri Bunga as well as keris. When I finished school, I apprenticed with my uncle, who taught me to carve traditional images. In 1993, a cousin taught me the carving of modern statuettes. I began to sell my work to sustain my studies and now several galleries in Bali collect my creations,’ he says.
